I have been informed of a further farm killing in South Africa which occurred at the weekend. 71 year old grandfather Gert Reyneke, and his wife had visited their daughter and her husband at their smallholding near Pretoria in order to celebrate their granddaughter's 14th birthday. Mr Reyneke had planned to make a cast iron bedstead for the child, however whilst sleeping in a flat a few meters from the main homestead, the couple were awoken by the sound of breaking glass. It was when he went to investigate that Mr. Reyneke was shot dead by an apparent intruder.
No property was taken by the intruders and motive remains open to question.
According to my calculations, Mr Reyneke's killing brings the total number of white farmers murdered since the ANC came to power in 1994 to 3024
